Brief History:The Highlanders which where formally known as the Otago Highlanders where one of the original franchises established in 1996. Since then the Highlanders have been one of the more competitive teams however have usually finished mid table. There best result was in 1999 when they finished second to the Canterbury Crusaders. The Highlanders worst performance was in its second season finishing last in 1997. The home ground which is formerly known as Carisbrooke has a capacity of 29,000 and is located in the southern city of Dunedin. The city has a large student population and have shown strong support for the Highlanders since their opening day. The Highlanders rugby shirt has been worn by some of the most well known All Blacks including Jeff Wilson, Taine Randell and Byron Kelleher, with plenty of new talent still coming through the Highlanders are considered a team to look out for.
