Super 14 Sharks Rugby Shirt: Originally called the Banana Boys. The Sharks rugby team were rebranded in 1995. A lot of money was spent revamping the match facilities, pre/post match activities and the most importantly the team. The Sharks rebranding was successful and brand is now internationally recognised.
Sharks Brief History:The Sharks are a South African team who are based in Durban. The Sharks were based around the Natal Sharks Union who picked players from all KwaZulu – Natal Province. They have been in the competition since the Super 10 years of 1993-1995.The Sharks have never won the Super 12 competition but they have reached the final three times, as Natal in 1996 and as the Sharks in 2001 and 2007.
In 2006 the Super 12 became the Super 14 with the introduction of two more teams to the competition. In the first Super 14 season the Sharks narrowly missed the finals and ended up coming 4th due to a points difference. In 2007 they were top of the table and became the first South African side to host a Super 12 or 14 final. The Sharks fought hard in the final but lost to the Bulls. The Sharks team of 2008 had Springbok players including JP Pietersen,François Steyn, Johan Ackerman, Adrian Jacobs, and Ruan Pienaar to name a few.
